New Movie "who Killed the Electric Car?"

Who Killed
the electric car?

I just saw this movie over the Thanksgiving weekend.
You'll have to see it for yourself.
I was stunned to see film footage shot from a helicopter
showing GM crushing all of it's electric cars followed by a clip
of a GM rep denying they were crushing any of them and claiming there was no
demand for the vehicles. That was followed by people demanding to buy out their leases of the cars so they could keep them.
here's a link to the movie website watch it now.

The Gift Economy by: Gifford Pinchot

"In the potlatches of the Chinook, Nootka, and other Pacific Northwest peoples, chiefs vied to give the most blankets and other valuables. More generally, inhunter-gatherer societies the hunter's status was not determined by how much ofthe kill he ate, but rather by what he brought back for others.
Antelope meat called for a gift economy because it was perishableand there was too much for any one person to eat. Information also loses value over time and has the capacity to satisfy more than one. In many cases information gains rather than loses value through sharing. While the exchange economy may have been appropriate for the industrial age, the gift economy is coming back as we enter the information age."

So, has it ever accured to anyone out there that, by sharing your wealth of knowledge on cars with others, you are like a great Chinook Indian Chief ?

If it's got an engine...

Here's one that all my classmates in idia 620 Information Culture
should take a look at. Not only does Dorri of "If it's got an engine..."
write some great car postings like,
"VW Beetle: The greatest (parts) car of all time!",
"Every conceivable type of engine"
and "What'll they think of next?" he has also posted a
thought provoking piece about the future of PCs, software,
and the internet called "Google Base - What's the real plan?"

BEN'S CAR BLOG

Here is a great site for seeing a classic car rebuild in action.
I'm talking about Ben's new acquisition Harvey - the Mazda 1500ss.
Ben has posted 5 "before" pictures of Harvey and I'm sure if we keep an
eye on "BEN'S CAR BLOG" we will eventually see some "after" or maybe some "in progress" pictures of old Harv.

Perhaps I should have just titled this one HELP!!!!

I hope there are some really good sports out there in the car blogosphere that won't mind answer a few questions. Please don't take it personal if I ask you to back it up
with a study. Don't let the lack of proof stop you from answering the questions with things such as opinions, hunches and 'I-heard-from-somebody...'. These are all very useful, in their own way. I've got to learn to be an information blood-hound and all those things will help be find the information scent.

Here it goes...

1.) What is more important to you as a car-blogger LINKS or POSTS ? and why?
What I mean is, what do you feel is your most effective tool to achieve the effect
you want as a blogger? Do you concentrate on posting long or detailed entry's to your site or do you feel it more important to link to other sites?

Or do you feel it is more important that others are linking to your site, thus bringing more traffic in to read your postings.

(in a political race where blogs were involved the winning side had far more links,
back and forth in their sphere of bloggers. The loosing side had more postings. Some think this holds significance. Do you? )

2.) Are you aware of any studies or other evidence that either links or posts have more powerful effects in getting the bloggers message out?

3.) Why do you blog? ( that can be a tough one, if you really like something I understand that it's a question that has no easy answer)

4.) What do you think (beyond your own personal satisfaction) is important about Car Blogs as a whole?

5.) In reference to question 4, can you point out a study or some other evidence that agrees with this? [told'ya I'd ask you to back-it-up. ; ) ]

6.) Roughly, how many friends/associates have you met OFF-LINE that you can talk about cars/automotive related subject at the depth that you want to?

7.) referring to Q 6., Roughly how many have you met ON-LINE ?

8.) Have you ever met another car enthusiast on-line then met them face-to-face?

9.) Do you have opportunities to meet other car enthusiasts (that you don't already know) face-to-face in events such as car-rallies, car-specific conventions,
auctions, swap-meets, parts flee-markets, etc. ?

If you made it this far, thanks ! Please answer what you can or what you want.

How Old is Car Blogging ?

According to weblogs: a history and perspective which can be found at a site called rebecca's pocket
"In 1998 there were just a handful of sites of the type that
are now identified as weblogs (so named by Jorn Barger in December 1997)."
Rebbecca goes on to say that there is evidence that there were about 23 blogs out there by 1999 and by that years end her's was one of them.

So, my question to you good folks is - How Old is Car Blogging ?

How long have you been doing it? How long have others you know been doing it?

and... When do you think is really Took-Off? or did it build slowly?

Hybrid Confussion

With gas prices sky-rocketing everyone is talking about hybrids.
There seems to be a lot of confussion going around,
most folks seem to be speaking of the type of hybrid that Toyota
uses when they talk about advantages and disadvantages of
hybrid technology.
Andrew Grant - "The Worlds First Prius Taxi Operator"
Has stepped in to clear up the confusion. In his October 16th post
"Are All Hybrid Systems Created Equal?" Andrew describes the
differences between Parallel Hybrid Systems and
Series Hybrid Systems. Personally, I own a Honda Insight.
You want to know which kind of hybrid it is?
Read Andrew's posting and find out.
